Contrary to the total rubbish we posted yesterday, this weekend’s surgery will not be taking place at the Clapham Town library. And it wont be hosted by Nigel Haselden. Yes, we had a muppet moment.
The surgery will instead be at Heathbrook Hall between 11am and noon. Its part of a new programme of roving surgeries that the councillors are organising that hopefully will see surgeries taking place in most parts of the ward in the next few years.
Feel free to come along with any issues, problems or feedback you have for Christopher Wellbelove, who’ll be running this one. Alternatively you can email him at CWellbelove@lambeth.gov.uk

The Conservative – sorry, I mean Coalition – government unveiled its crash and burn budget this week as Im sure many of you will have noticed, mainly because it hits every single ordinary person in the UK hard. The Tories and their Lib Dem lackeys did their best to sell it as a “progressive” budget, which had economists raising objections, some of their own backbenchers tabling amendments and most of the rest of us laughing.
Well, almost laughing, as the cuts to services and support will impact on the lives of everyone, mostly those who cannot afford it. It will be the residents throughout Clapham Town – from the Willard Estate to Nelson’s Row – who will have their child credits cut, Sure Start Centre’s cut back, their local magistrate courts closed and other public services slashed. It’s likely to get even worse as the Con-Dem government gears up to impose massive cuts to local government funding that will see Lambeth as well as other councils face a budget squeeze, despite the good work Labour has done to sort out the council finances we inherited in 2006 from our own disastrous Con-Dem council.
And there really is no need for this. Yes, the budget needs to be curtailed, but it could have been done with less pain than this and with more progressive taxes, such as when Labour asked the top earners to pay more during the economic downturn.
If youre interested in fighting these cuts then get in touch with us, either by joining Labouror if youre not political contacting your local councillors with your concerns.

Summer has come to Clapham, with a series of fetes and fayres across the area. Today, 19 June, was the turn of The Holy Trinity Church on Clapham Common whilst the previous week was the turn of St Pauls Church in Clapham Old Town.

As always it was great to see so many local people of ages coming together in these fantastic community events.

Your local Labour councillors are continuing to campaign to fight Conservative Mayor Boris Johnsons plan to scrap the valued South London Line.
Despite intensive lobbying by your local Labour councillors and GLA representative Val Shawcross and thousands of signatures on a petition asking for the line that links Clapham directly to Victoria Boris is threatening to cut the service to Victoria instead of improving the service as Labour councillors have demanded from just two trains an hour to at least four.
Clapham residents know all too well the nightmare of travelling during peak hours, being unable to get on overcrowded tubes bound for the centre of London.
The tragic loss of the South London Line will only make matters worse and it is madness that this Conservative Mayor refuses to listen to local concerns.
Boris has awarded TFL bosses 17 million pounds in bonuses which is an insult to ordinary Clapham commuters who are being forced to pay increased fares for a poorer service.

Community safety is about crime, policing and keeping safe – a topic which is top of the list of concerns in Lambeth.
This survey is about what we can do about it – how community groups, voluntary organisations and their members can have their say about reducing crime, improving policing and increasing safety.
The Safer Lambeth Partnership (Lambeth Police, Lambeth Council and others) has asked the Lambeth Community Police Consultative Group to look at how people would like to have their say and to be involved in improving community safety in Lambeth.
If you would like to complete the survey, please complete the community safety survey on-line.

The local surgery for Clapham town’s three Labour councillors has just changed. Although the time is the same – noon every Saturday – the surgery will now be at Clapham’s Methodist church, just off the High Street on Nelson Road.
To get access to the building you need to round the side of the church, down Nelson’s road, and ring the bell – someone will answer! The only time the surgery wont run is on bank holiday weekends.
If you can’t make it down then feel free to email anyone of your councillors at the below addresses:
Helen O’Malley – homalley@lambeth.gov.uk
Nigel Halesden – nhalesden@lambeth.gov.uk
Christopher Wellebelove – cwellebelove@lambeth.gov.uk

The changes to Lambeth leisure centre have been in the news a lot locally following the council’s decision to redevelop the site. It closed on the 15th January for major work that will include the building of a new swimming pool.
Local Clapham Town counsellor Nigel Halesden gives an interview with local Clapham blogger Jason Cobb, which was uploaded on the 19th January (for those searching through his back catalogue). It is a tough interview in which Nigel talks about the scope of the project and when it will be finished, as well as answers some of the questions about how the redevelopment has been conducted.
Have a listen to the interview and give us your feedback on what you have heard.
Information about where classes at the leisure centre have been moved to are available at this page.

There aren’t many things that are more downright annoying than a neighbour sending you up the wall with noise. To tackle this, back in November, Lambeth council expanded its noise patrol service so that it now operates much longer hours than before.
As the Lambeth website outlines, excessive noise is defined as a disturbance that impacts on any resident’s quality of life. Specifically this can be:
loud music, TV or radio
persistent shouting, banging or other unreasonable domestic noise
parties or other entertainment
pubs, clubs and entertainment venues
building and DIY work at unreasonable times of the day
constant dog barking
car and burglar alarms.
If you’re being upset by any of these problems, then you can call the 9am to 5pm service on 020 7926 6111 or the rapid response service which is open at the below times:
Monday to Thursday evenings: 5pm to 3am
Friday evenings: 5pm to 5am
Saturday: 2pm to 5am
Sunday: 2pm to 3am
